Safer Together was born out of the desire to help children and youth interact and socialize safely during the pandemic. In Fall 2020, private schools re-opened in San Francisco while public schools remained closed. Co-founders Mariana Fraga, Tracey Briones, and Stacie Calad-Thomson saw the inequity gap widening and the worsening impact of the ongoing isolation on families. They learned that the testing resources that could make gathering safer existed, but were not being deployed effectively, if at all.
In March 2021, Safer Together became a clinical laboratory with a CLIA Certificate of Waiver and began delivering free COVID-19 tests to vulnerable and marginalized community members through collaborative partnerships with 30+ Community Based Organizations. But we're not stopping there: our mission is to continue supporting community well-being through our model of organizing, resourcing, training and navigating.
Community organizing for well-being is the framework for all that we do. We bring in necessary partnerships with key local and state stakeholders to ensure the viability, sustainability and success of our programs.
Safer Together works with our network of partnerships and agencies, as well as our funders, to secure resources to build and deliver our programs.
We are scrappy and savvy
and make it happen.
We are not a COVID-19 band-aid. Our partnerships are build to last. We provide high touch support and ongoing care navigation that responds to the ever-changing pandemic landscape.
Much of the health and wellness industry is gate-kept by expensive, inaccessible training and education.
We lower to community care through by providing resources, tools, training, and education. We help build community capacity and agency around well-being, and a pipeline of future health care workers.
